Kings Beach, which is the new venue for the Nelson Mandela Bay Splash festival will see spectacular surf racing for 3 days from the 10-13th of April and a longhaul endurance event on the 18th of April. The beach can present some powerful surf when the conditions allow, which should not be underestimated. Fortunately, for the competitors, April is normally a forgiving month for extreme weather.
SAIBA would like to bring the event closer to Mc Authors
bath side of Kings Beach (an area which is normally a bathing area).
This location has two restaurants on the beach, which will be great
for spectators and competitors.
Not only are the beaches perfect, but within 7km of the beach we has a
freshwater venue which is perfect for the circuit discipline in the North
End Lake which will soon be home to the New 2010 Soccer stadium. Three
days of high-speed action will be experience from the 14th - 16th of April.
This venue has seen the excitement of the South African F1 national championship
for the passed three years and is well suited to hosting Power Boating
events. One will have to look far and wide before finding a more suitable
venue with such simple logistics.
For the longhaul endurance event the teams will return to Kings beach. The route will take the teams along the beachfront passed Shark Rock Pier, around the point to Flat Rocks, all which is visible from the shore making it spectator friendly. The teams will then turn out to sea and around the Bell Buoy, across the bay to the harbor wall, turning back the Kings Beach again. The route is marked on the diagram but may be changed should the organizers deem fit.

For 2009 World Championships the governing body, the UIM, have approved
three classes of racing for P750 inflatables, as opposed to one in the
previous years. This means that in April 2009 in Nelson Mandela Bay we
have the opportunity to crown 3 World Champions and not just one. Rules
for the P750S (standard class) and P750M (modified class) are now available
with the revised P750 (blue print class) rules below, and on the UIM
website. Any technical questions can be sent to the SAIBA
Technical Officer.
